Project that promotes recycling in buildings and communities obtained the first place in Fab 2018
Tarikapuy generates a link between residents and their administrators as agents of change for the preservation of the environment. Their work consists of informative workshops for the community, as well as the installation of all sort of containers that promote correct recycling.
The 17 candidate projects had three minutes and the need to convince the jury of the Providencia Innovation Factory 2018 (FAB). The themes to be evaluated were Health and Aging, Technology and Waste Management. At 20:00 hours, after a day of almost all day, the final verdict and a winner was announced.
Tarikapuy, with its recycling project, obtained the first place thanks to its goals of awareness in Chilean homes, being Providencia its first executor. "The best residue is the one that it’s never produced," explained its members in a video, seeking to promote the participation of people as agents of change for the preservation of the environment.
Coming from science, engineering and the arts, this experience seeks education in buildings or housing communities from three stages.
The first is to generate a link with your administration, taking charge of the reusable waste generated. After that, the same personnel are sensitized as to the residents of the importance of recycling as well as the installation of containers for cardboard and paper, plastic and aluminum. Adding suitable containers with easy access, the last action is the removal of these waste to certified collection plants.
Carolina Arredondo, one of its founders, explained that the name of the project comes from Quechua and means "to recover which has been lost", which they sought to implement in its circular economy model that seeks to give prominence to the residents of Providencia.
We will develop awareness workshops in buildings, we will install containers with separation inside the homes, then we take care of the removal, and we take the material to collection centers. It is essential that we become aware of the sustainability of the planet and we believe that the neighbors should participate in this process", he explained.
When obtaining the first place of the FAB, this project will enter in an internship period in the Department of the Environment of the Municipality of Providencia. In this area they will acquire tools for the implementation of their project in the commune of Providencia, thanks to a 100% municipal program developed by the HUB Providencia Innovation Department.
Nicole Castro, Chief of Innovation of said space, highlighted the importance of these initiatives and the possible work networks to which the projects can access.
"We are very proud of everyone, the work with the projects does not end here. From the Municipality we will continue supporting, guiding and linking the groups with partners that we have as IBM, Gero Chile and 3M, so they can be successful in their proposals ", he assured.
